A barrier-blending technology for adding games capabilities to DVD players which was developed by VM Labs during the late 90s. With the first Nuon-compatible player releasing sometime in early 2000, the interesting crossover of games/3D rendering and DVD players was a peculiar idea but led absolutely nowhere, as the technology quietly faded out in 2003 with little in the name of Nuon-utilizing software and sales.

There are four versions of this “console”, arranged chronologically.

Appears to be the first Nuon player to have released. Doesn’t support homebrew, but it does support burned copies of official software. 2 controller ports on the front, which are MicroUSB. At the back, there is various methods of video and audio out, including component and S-Video.

One of the earlier Nuon players to release in North America. This one does not support homebrew, but it does support playing burned copies of official software.

RECOMMENDED OVERALL

The first Nuon compatible DVD which definitely supports homebrew, and of course, official Nuon software. Luckily, the invaluable work of some Nuon fans has revealed detailed information about this model’s inputs and functionality. The back panel of this system has digital audio out, composite/component out, coaxial out, and S-Video. The front panel has various buttons to interface with the player, plus 2 controller ports. Lastly, there doesn’t appear to be anything on the bottom.

The other Nuon compatible DVD player which seemingly supports homebrew. However, these RCA players confusingly have no support for official Nuon software. Known for the best hardware quality and appearance, when it comes to DVDs.
