9th Generation

The 9th generation of portable game consoles, which cannot really be defined with either a start or an end. With Nintendo and Sony both having departed from this field, the best definition is 2019-present by using the Nintendo Switch Lite as the only “true” 9th generation system. Outside of the Lite, this generation is filled with “retro-revivalist” systems, “emulation-handhelds”, “mini-PCs”, and many more things that generally define the era as a field of anarchy coinciding with the 2020s. Because of this, EOPs are simultaneously flush and limited, with emu-handhelds and mini-PCs providing tons of options, while “the rest” provide little in the name of interest. Of course, the Switch Lite is a wildcard, as it either provides nothing or everything (by modchipping it, which is hard). As this generation isn't over, maybe some more interesting wildcards will appear - something that isn't just a “non-competitor” device which also provides a lot of EOP potential.

Assorted

Potential:

Blaze Evercade (Cortex-A7; practically an emulation handheld with artificial restrictions)
GamePad Digital GPD Win Max (Intel Core i5-1035G7; this is just a computer!)
OpenPandora DragonBox Pyra (OMAP5432; this is just a computer!)
Panic Playdate (STM32F746; silly and overpriced basically)
Valve Steam Deck (AMD Zen 2; this is just a computer!)

No Potential:

None yet…

Nintendo Game and Watch (2020s)

Nintendo Switch
