Version & Revision Guide
For general information, see the Game Console Revisions Overview.
Versions
There are three versions of this console, arranged chronologically.
“SG-1000 (original)” (1983-1984)
Here, the console combines hardwired and detachable controllers, with the 1st player’s controller being hardwired, but the 2nd being detachable through a secondary port. This console has a distinctive saccharine blue stripe on the front, featuring the SEGA logo. Controllers are similar to joysticks. May not have native Game Card support.
“SC-3000” (1983-1984?)
This is the home computer variant of the SG-1000, that can be instantly recognized by it’s keyboard. Released as it’s own revision.
“SG-1000 II/Mark II” (1984-1985)
RECOMMENDED OVERALL
Being the final version of the SG-1000, this has some changes to take into account the drastically changing home video game market. Firstly, the controllers have been made detachable, and now resemble the typical gamepad of the era. The distinctive blue stripe has been removed, and Sega Cards are now supported through an adapter. Lastly, a keyboard addon is now available through the front, making the II closer to the SC-3000.
Revisions
There is one revision within the SC-3000, and no revisions for the other two.
SC-3000 revisions:
“SC-3000H” (1983-1984?)
A premium version of the SC-3000, which has mechanical keys, instead of the chiclet keys seen on normal SC-3000s.
LOWEST PRICE and BEST RELIABILITY couldn’t be assigned.
