Releasing July 15th, 1983, the SG-1000 is quite similar to the Master System with it's Zilog Z80, 256x192 output resolution with 16 colors, and 1KB RAM. Accomplishing little, the SG-1000 was enough to convince SEGA to release the Master System, known in Japan as the SG-1000 Mark III, worldwide.

Firstly, the controllers have been made detachable, and now resemble the typical gamepad of the era. The distinctive blue stripe has been removed, and Sega Cards are now supported through an adapter. Lastly, a keyboard addon is now available through the front, making the II closer to the SC-3000.
